Shortly after the exhibition on Trešnjevka, we organized the exhibition Trnje – Space and People. With these two exhibitions that share the same concept and similar topics, we compared the history of Trnje with the history of Trešnjevka. The transformation of the area, which became part of Zagreb in 1850 with the annexation of its administrative units, was interesting for research and presentation.

The exhibitions traced the transformation of these areas, including their appearance on maps and in regulations of the 19th century Zagreb, the spreading of Zagreb’s slums and/or village life and the attempts to consolidate the area between the two world wars. Finally, it covered the processes of urbanization and rapid modernization after World War 2, as well as the gradual integration of these spaces into the city.

In this process we presented Trnje in its entirety, in an attempt to make visible the various parts of this city quarter, historical settlements and areas that have their own (sub)identity: Cvjetno Naselje, Vrbik, Martinovka, Staro Trnje, Kruge, Savica, Sigečica and Kanal.
